Alternative Paths to Your Dreams

decision

Think back to when you were 9 or 10 years old and were asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”  Now think to when someone asks you that now.  Is your answer still the same or has it changed?

If your answer has changed from a child to now, you probably don’t think anything of it.  If what you want to do changes or your timeline to achieve your goals changes at this age, most times the alarms start going off in your head.  They are telling you, “This is not supposed to happen!”  It’s extremely hard to cope with seeing something that you have always wanted getting seemingly further from your reach or having to deviate from your original plan.  Taking another route to get to where you want to go is okay!  Choosing to take a different route altogether towards a different final destination is okay too!  There are many different paths to success.  The problem is we sometimes think we have more control over things than we actually do and life is way too short to dwell on things that we have no control over.

If a bunch of curves and obstacles develop in the path that you had once envisioned as a straight shot from point A to point B—that is okay!  That’s life!  Don’t let those things stress you out, bring you down or discourage you from following your dreams!  Try to embrace the blessings and lessons that exist in our given situations.  God has a special plan for all of us and His plan may not always parallel the plans that we have for ourselves.  So remember, “If you really want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.”

As I think back to when I was 9 or 10 years of age I wanted to be a teacher. Now at a much older age I wont to be a doctor. When you are little you aren’t to sure what you won’t to be, but as you get older and see different things and go through this and that you have a different prespective of what it is you truly won’t to do. Still now you might won’t to change what you wont to be. Like you said God might have something else for you that’s why he made it so you would thnk differently on what you wanted to be. So follow your heart not your mind and pray and ask God to give you strength and courage to do what he has for you.

This post was very helpful, I changed my mind from when I was a 9 and 10, from growing up I suffered a lot of discouragement, that had me to go another route, and even though I’m older, I am realizing that some things are meant to happen, so I will keep praying and trusting God! great post. thanx.

This is a great post! From the age 9 until my junior year in high school I wanted to be an OB Nurse. During my senior year I said to myself I should go ahead and be an OBGYN doctor instead of a nurse, until I did an internship at our local hospital and quickly realized it was not for me. Experiencing child birth was awesome that didnt bother me. It was the schedule that I didn’t want to deal with. I couldn’t see myself waking up in the middle of the night to deliver a baby. When i started college I changed my major from Biology to Accounting, which is a big difference. Now that I’m 25 I don’t regret it at all. I love what I do, love dealing with numbers, and finding ways to make money.

Life isn’t always going to be a walk in the park, for some people it may be who knows but that doesnt give us the right to be jealous of them or feel that we can’t accomplish our goals. What glitters isnt always gold, just because a person lives in a big mansion and you live in an apartment means that their life is so much better than yours, or that they are better than you in some shape or form because they are not. We are all special and unique in our own way. Once we make a plan and like trey said tell God our plans things begin to look much clearer and its the road to a new beginning.

My dream is still the same but I had to change the path a couple of times. I’m working towards it as we speak!

When I was between the age of 8-10 years old I wanted to love everybody and be loved by everybody! The problem with that dream of mines is plain and simple…”I was born into a world of hate.” God blessed me with the ability to share my pain and my love for the whole with the whole world through writing “Discerning Perceptive” This is my Dream coming True, and you all are living witnesses!

so true…but some people realize some of the hard work it takes to achieve their dreams, and some dont have all the resources to get there. But God will always make a way, if he has given that gift to you, then he expects you to use it to the best of your ability to praise him. We can never surprise God, he made us, he knows us, better than we know or will ever know ourselves.

  15. BarshanaJ. SAYS:

my answer is the same only because my goal is to help others with my gifts and talents whether its teaching, poetry, being silly to make them laugh. i always wanted what i did to make a difference in the world. God’s plans are not always our plans. sometimes his ways of making our dreams come true of manifesting our purpose is different from what how we planned to get to our destiny. He knows best and works in mysterious ways. He will direct our paths as long as we let him. you are so right sweetie. its okay if we get there by an alternative route to get to our places of destination.

When I look back to what I wanted to do when I was that age, I wanted to be a doctor. Circumstances changed, that age 12 my sister had a second daughter and my family decided to allow her to leave my neice with us. I raised both my neices and my plans changed. So instead I tried a different route of two year college and work. Work oversaw my responsiblity. I’ve worked hard over the years and I’m glad of where it took me, from a job to a career in law enforcement, eventually to writing books. I’ve just maintained a relation to ask GOD for wisdom and he is so giving it to me. I retain information and store it for later use. I want to instill in my daughter, who is 9 that become a singer/song writer or whatever she puts her mind to she can too achieve. Although my life was altered, it wasn’t wasteful, I have a wonderful daughter, two beautiful neices, one in college at University of Knoxville, pursuing her degree in family/marriage counseling. So too those that think life maybe not what you asked for just squeeze a little more of yourself to others and you too will benefit.

You know sometime you read a post or a blog and at that moment the words just jump off the page right into your present life? This is one of such. My career have changed, and as circumstances i keep being diverted to the same job i started with at 16 10 years ago, Administrative Work and Sales Representative, however i always desired to be a Pilot and an Information Technology Engineer, at 9 and 10 years it was Architecture and my path led to that point once then stopped (Technical Drawing A Student). But we must realise some paths take you thus far and no further. Then is when we really come to terms that God must know our plans so we can proceed.
I love this blog and its really great and inspiring, i posted it on my facebook page as a note to share with my friends and let them think about it too…we all need guidance to get over the bumps and trials our paths project, that’s why we always need God..

To be totally honest, because of chronic migraine headaches, it’s difficult for me to remember when I was 9 or 10. My childhood is a mash up of memories told to me by my family. They’ve told me many stories about my childhood. me wanting to be a nurse when I was as young as 6 or 7. That came to pass. But just recently, I realized that is not my passion. I only do that because I have a lot of family and friends as health care professionals. My true passion is the entertainment business. I’ve been in the business off and on for a long while. No matter how I try to go to work or try to focus on something else in my life pertaining to work, I always feel like something is missing. Being in front of cameras, that ’s my passion. Whether it’s was modeling, doing local commercials, being in a couple of indie films, or doing hair shows. I got a taste of that, and I don’t know how to get the taste out of mouth or if I want to. One thing I do know, I’m going to keep praying about it, research it, and go to work on it. If it’s not for me, I’m almost positive God will let me know. The migraine headaches are finally getting better after 20 years (THANK GOD). So I will not give up on my dreams. Sure I’ve had to alter them, change paths, deal with trials and tribulations. But I believe with all my heart that a breakthrough is on it’s way soon. I have all faith in God and He will lead my guide my step in the right direction. Much Love and God Bless. glamourgirlps901@gmail.com ps.It’s my birthday today March 9th.
