Clawing At History

The UConn Women’s Basketball program has long since solidifed itself as one of the greatest entities in sports history. What they’re currently doing, however, is transforming them from legends to icons.
I’ve never been as big of a fan of the women’s game in comparison to their male counterparts. But winning 61 consecutive games ALL by at least 10 points is something special. Even calling it “special” doesn’t seem fair enough. To put this in perspective, let this marinate for a moment. The last time the Lady Huskies lost in the spring of 2008…
1. People were still on the fence, Hillary or Barack?
2. We were still months away until Drake-mania officially went into orbit.
3. Tiger Woods was about to be known for his heroic performance at the U.S. Open. Not his “transgressions.”
4. Gas prices were damn near $5.00/gallon.
5. Facebook was still towering over its competition, including Twitter.
61 straight. Regardless, that is impressive on whatever level the game is being played at. It’s just a shame this isn’t getting more coverage than it is now. In case you’re wondering where this streak stands in history, they’re closing in on their OWN record of 70 wins from 2001-2003. And they are 27 games away from breaking the all-time mark (88) held by John Wooden’s UCLA Bruins between the years of 197-1974.

UCONN!!! I go there and really on campus it seems like no big deal what there doing. It seems like their suppose 2 b winning 61 straight cuz their expected too win every game. But what their doin is really incredible!

02.10.10 on 11:29 pmTiger Woods certainly does talk an outstanding game in the media meeting regarding becoming far more respectful to the game of golf, although his actions spoke much louder than his words when he skipped the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Tiger might have earned so much good will by doing the tournament. Arnie would certainly have prepared everything that he might have to help present Tiger in the best light, however rather Tiger decides to dismiss one of the legends of this game and do his own thing. Best of luck at the Masters, Mr Woods. Congratulations towards Ernie Els, and I hope you will do incredibly well on Augusta.
